10 Things To Do in Rainy Days

Autumn is beautiful in Bariloche – I would even say – the autumn in Bariloche is the most beautiful I have ever lived. The trees, the sunsets, the sunrises, the lakes, the mountains – everything turns into orange, yellow, red, purple… the colors are just magical!

And yet, there are days and weeks when the rain comes and one cannot really enjoy all the outdoor activities that Bariloche has to offer. So that is why I came up with a list of “ Things to do in Rainy Days”.

1. Focus on your Spanish – in those rainy days, you can really focus on your lessons and do your homework after school.

      2. Stay with us for our after-class activities – we will be cooking delicious argentine treats, watching a movie or playing games. (only in Spanish!)

   

     3. A day of chocolate – Visit the museum of chocolate and go for a hot chocolate in one of Bariloche’s famous artisanal   chocolate stores – We highly recommend Mamuschka or Rapanui (in calle Mitre, 5 min walking from school.)

     4. A day of Spa in Villa Sofia – enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the jacuzzi, sauna or the steam room, or treat yourself with a massage. This hotel is just 20 min walking from our school.

   

5. A Fondue evening – in cold days, a warm cheese fondue in one of the many cozy Swiss Restaurants in town or in Colonia Suica will really warm you up.

  

  6. A cultural day – visit El Museo de la Patagonia,  el Museo Paleontológico, or join a free guided tour of the famous Llao Llao hotel (every Wednesday at 3pm).

      7. Happy Hours in local breweries – there are many good micro-breweries in Bariloche – all making their own beer, and offering delicious pizzas and picadas: Blest, Berlina, La Cruz, Manush, Yeshka, Konna – the list continues but pls take at least 2 weeks to visit them all – we want you to be in class at 9am every day! (Happy Hours are usually between 6-8pm)

     8. Enjoy a delicious Argentine stake with a bottle of red wine – Our recommendation: Alto el Fuego. (10 min walking from school).

     9. Go to the cinema – try to watch a movie in Spanish! (in Shopping Patagonia)

    

    10. Spend more time with your host family – we highly recommend students to choose staying in a family. This allows them to fully immerse in Latin American culture, share home made meals, local customs and traditions and interesting conversations.

  

   I am sure that until you go down that list, the sun will be back and you can run into the next adventure!

Hola.

Acabo de pasar 4 meses en Bariloche.  Fue una experiencia muy linda, y a mí me gustaría darle mucho crédito a la escuela "La Montaña".  Acá, pude conquistar muchas de las dudas lingüísticas que cargué por tanto tiempo. Las docentes me enseñaron con mucha atención, paciencia, y una buena dosis de humor. 

Cuando no podía captar un concepto, me animaban y juntos lo enfrentábamos por otra ruta.

Fue genial como cada semana conocía a nueva gente interesante.  Eran de todas partes del mundo tales como: Brasil, Inglaterra, Francia, Israel, Canada, EE.UU, Japón y Holanda.  Así que para mí, la escuela tenía un aspecto internacional.

Me gustó cómo la escuela organizó actividades y excursiones cada día.  Esas excursiones me dieron la oportunidad de conocer mejor a mis compañeros.  Me siento un poco arrepentido por no haber aprovechado más esas actividades y, por ende, conocido más personas.

He visitado muchos destinos lindos en el mundo.  Aunque sea imposible comparar todos, tengo que confesar que Bariloche y su entorno deberían ser una de los más lindos en el mundo. 

Primero, la arquitectura de Bariloche es distinta y única.  Segundo, el tamaño de la ciudad es perfecto para un peatón.  De hecho, prendí mi GPS y me enteré que caminé alrededor de 150 milas cada mes.  Ultimo pero no menos importante es que la ciudad está ubicada a la orilla del Lago Nahuel Huapi, que está rodeado por cerros lindos y Los Andes imponentes.   

En las afueras de Bariloche, no hay carencia de actividades, ya sea treking, escalada, navegación en el lago, kayak, playa, camping, ciclismo. Éstas se llevan a cabo en el escenario más linda que uno puede imaginar. 

Estuvimos en Bariloche desde Noviembre hasta Febrero.  Soy de la parte norte de Norteamérica.  Por lo tanto, que lindo fue para poder evitar un invierno duro.  Cada día, hubo cielos azules y sol.

Si pudiera repetir mi experiencia acá, lo haría sin vacilar.  La verdad es que fue tan buena que ¡quiero volver y repetirla otra vez!

Ramon estuvo con nosotros 14 semanas y obtuvo un Master en "Che, Vos y Mate". Mucha suerte en tu viaje! Te vamos a extrañar mucho!

Durante mis clases en La Montaña tenia profesores increíbles. Profesores de Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Bariloche, y partes diferentes de Argentina. Todos los profesores son muy inteligentes, divertidos, y amables. Cuando llegue a Bariloche y a la escuela, no sabia que iba a encontrar. Yo aprendí muy rápido que toda la gente es muy simpática. Yo vivía con una familia de Argentina  por tres meses. Mi experiencia mejoró tanto con la familia. Podía practicar mi español, comía comida muy rica, y pasaba tiempo en una cultura diferente. Además, los estudiantes de la escuela siempre tenían ganas de estudiar y aprender español. La escuela tiene un ambiente muy bueno y les da a los estudiantes muchas oportunidades para aprender. Las clases de cocina, los juegos, clases de yoga y mucho mas me enseñaron mucho.     

  La Montaña es la razón porque puedo hablar español y comunicarme con la gente de America del Sur. Ahora, me voy a otros partes pero ya quiero regresar a la Montaña. No voy a olvidarme de nada de mi experiencia en Bariloche y espero que pueda regresar un día. Gracias a mi familia, mis profesores, Verónica, María y todos mis amigos. Fue una experiencia asombrosa.

My wife and I spent five weeks with Spanish in Bariloche

My wife and I spent five weeks with Spanish in Bariloche, Spanish School. Veronica made excellent arrangements and we could not have asked for a better instructor than Sasha. Sasha dealt with our differing needs in Spanish in intensive one-of-one sessions. Always cheerful, always on time — a sheer delight.

The Spanish instruction is wonderful

Veronica runs a fantastic program at "Spanish in Bariloche".  The Spanish instruction is wonderful but, on top of that, she and her team  also do so much more! Her school is terrific and the teachers are excellent. However, the big bonus for me was that she helped us organize our trip and also helped us find a place to stay and things to do while we were there.  If Veronica had not been so instrumental in helping us get organized, we probably would not have gone to Bariloche and would have missed out on amazing hikes and nature, wonderful food, excellent spanish instruction and a wonderful summer camp.  My three boys (3, 8 and 10 years old) loved the classes and activities and learned so much and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed
exploring all that Bariloche has to offer. Veronica is a sweetheart and a delight to work with and know.  I can't recommend her highly enough.
