What is a homestay like?

A Family homestay will allow you to learn more than just a language. You will have the opportunity to practice your Spanish, immerse in the Latin American culture, share regional home made meals, conversations and experiences with locals, while enjoying the safety and comfort of a familiar environment, in a relaxed and homely atmosphere.
All our host families are centrally located, walking distance from the school. They have more than 10 years experience in receiving people from all over the world. All homes are quality checked by our staff.

Spanish and Ski

Spanish Program specially scheduled for winter-sport enthusiasts who want to learn the Spanish language. Learn Spanish to fit your ski schedules!

Who is this course for?

With our Spanish + ski program, students can both learn Spanish and enjoy the most breathtaking sceneries in the world in the biggest ski resort of South America.
Students will take group or private lessons 2 hours per day from Monday to Friday and will have the rest of the time for going to the slopes.

Course Features

Number of students per class: max 6 students.
Lessons per week: 10 hours lessons per week

Mininum Duration: 1 week. 
Levels: Available for Basic, Intermediate & Advanced levels.
Cost: us$ 250 per week

5 top things to do in Bariloche during Ski season.

San Carlos de Bariloche is without any doubts the most beautiful place to enjoy nature and skiing in Southamerica, if not in the world! Staying in this picturesque town during ski season will probably not be enough to fully discover this unique area.

There are so many things you can enjoy before od after your day in the slopes!

1) Trekking and Sighseeing: You can hire an excursion but of course you can do many things just taking public transportation. Bariloche is endeed, very well connected, you can easily get from town center to nature paradise in a few minutes. See the list of places you can visit and the bus you need to take:
Cerro Campanario. Bus number 20. 20' ride.
Parque Municipal Llao Llao: Bus number 20. 35' ride.
Lago Gutierrez: Bus number 50. 35' ride.

2) Micro-breweries: if you like beer, ski season will not give enough time to sample the wide variety of handicraft beers you can find in Bariloche. 5) Spanish lessons: People in Bariloche is open and friendly. However, getting around might get hard if you don't have any idea of Spanish because just a few can speak English. Cómo obtener créditos universitarios en Patagonia?

En la escuela de español La Montaña, los estudiantes pueden obtener tres tipos de certificación por sus estudios. En los tres casos, la estadía mínima es de 4 semanas. Los cursos van desde inicial hasta avanzado y para todas la edades.
Dependiendo de la nacionalidad, los estudiantes pueden elegir entre:

Créditos universitarios para estudiantes de EEUU:
Los estudiantes de grado matriculados en cualquier universidad o College de EEUU pueden obtener entre 3 y 11 créditos simplemente con una visa de turista.


Universidad Nacional de San Martín: UNSAM es una universidad nacional argentina a través de la cual los estudiantes de grado provenientes de cualquier país del mundo pueden obtener créditos universitarios. La visa se tramita conjuntamente con los créditos.

University Certification:
Cualqueir estudiante, de cualquier país del mundo con una visa de turista puede requerir esta certificación donde consta: nivel alcanzado y horas de cursada. Otorgado por: Universidad Nacional de San Martin.

Cost and funding for Study Abroad in Patagonia


Bariloche, Argentina is a small slice of paradise located in the Rio Negro province of Argentina. As a year-round travel destination, there are a multitude of ways to get here. Here at La Montana, we are well-versed in planning travel for students and would be happy to assist in the planning and preparation stages of your trip to Bariloche, Argentina. Students will be held responsible for the travel costs of getting to Bariloche.


We offer students variety of lodging options during their time with us. Prices listed above are to calculated under the assumption students will be staying with a local Argentine family in a homestay. This price includes two meals per day, breakfast and dinner. If a student would prefer a different lodging situation, please reach out via the Contact Us page.


Potential scholarships exist in partnership with Brookhaven College’s MAP program. Funding opportunities can be organized through contact with them, which can be organized by reaching out via the Contact Us page of our website.

Argentina National Holidays

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS There will be no classes on public holidays. Classes will be compensated with extra after-class hours making up 50% of the time lost for holidays. When there are two or more holidays in the same week, the school will be closed only one of those days.

Earn University credits in Patagonia

At La Montaña Spanish School students can obtain 3 types of certification. For the three of them, the minimum length is 4 weeks. We have courses available for all levels of Spanish.
Depending on your nationality you can choose from:

US College or US University Credits:
Students enrolled at any college or university in the US holding a tourist visa can obtain between 3 to 11 College or University Credits with our Spanish courses.


Universidad Nacional de San Martin University credits: UNSAM is an argentine national university offering credits for students of any countries.
Any student enrolled at any university in the world can obtain university credits with our Spanish courses. Student visa is required.

University Certification:
Any student, from any country holding a tourist visa can obtain a University Certification by taking our Spanish courses via Universidad Nacional de San Martin.

Program Summary

On J-Term in Bariloche, you will take Spanish-language classes at a local Spanish School while earning 3-5 university credits. In your free time, you can explore nearby mountains, go trekking, kajaking, rafting, rock-climbing in majestic sceneries of Patagonia Andes. At the same time, you will get to know Argentina culture while tasting empanadas and other delicious traditional dishes with classmates. You will experience:
* Classes with international students - Your fellow students will be a great balance of students from across the US and many countries around the world.
* Learning and using Spanish - Take Spanish-language courses at any level with local professors. Use your Spanish in the markets, restaurants, and tango classes of Bariloche, and you'll really learn the language.
